Services Held for Joseph John Konechne

Funeral services were held at 9:A.M. Monday at St. Margaret's Catholic Church, Kimball, for Joseph J. Konechne, 91, who passed away early Friday morning, March 27, 1964, in the Chamberlain Hospital. He had been a patient for a month. Rev. Edward O'Connor officiated and altar boys were Pat, Leonard, Douglas and Kenny Konechne. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Guthmiller Funeral Home.

The deceased was born March 19, 1873 at Spillville, Iowa and came to Brule County with his parents, one sister and three brothers at the age of nine. His parents homesteaded in Richland Township twelve miles southwest of Kimball where he grew to manhood. He married Stella Soulek and they lived on the farm now occupied by Joe B. Konechne. Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Konechne. One daughter, Lucy died in infancy.

Mrs. Konechne died in 1927 and then he retired from farming and moved to Kimball with his three youngest children. In 1929 he married Mrs. Mary Soulek and she preceded him in death by 5 years. He then lived with his children and for the past two years he had resided in Sunset Valley Haven at Chamberlain.

Immediate survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Mamie Hanson, Platte, Mrs. Orley (Helen) Lynch, Elk Point, Mrs. Albert (Elsie) Geppert, Kimball, Mrs. Leotta Doering, Chula Vista, California, and Mrs. Fred (Lucille) Houda, Kimball, seven sons, Louis, Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Leo, Milwaukee and Joe, Charles, George, Paul and Harry, all of Kimball; a brother J.H. Mary Ann Svoboda Soulek Konechne

Final Services Held for Mrs. J.J. Konechne
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning March 18 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Kimball for Mrs. J. J. Konechne, who passed away Monday morning, March 16, at her home.
Rev. Edward O'Connor officiated at the mass. Two grandsons, Jimmy Geppert and Mark Soulek along with Norman, Dennis, Pat, and Terry Konechne assisted with the mass.
Mrs. Konechne was born September 15, 1881 in Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Svoboda. She came to the United States at the age of three years. On February 6, 1898 she was united in marriage to Frank Soulek at Kimball. To this union seven children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Soulek in 1912 and two daughters, Mrs. Clara (James) Pazour in 1934, and Mrs. Ada (John) Baker in1956. On September 19, 1929 she was united in marriage to Joseph John Konechne of Kimball. Survivors include her husband Joseph; two sons, Leo Soulek, Springfield, Oregon and James Soulek of Kimball, three daughters, Mrs. Helen Gavin, Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Ralph Arnold, Rapid City and Mrs. Edward Geppert of Alexandria, 26 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, three brothers, Frank and Adolph Svoboda of Kimball and John of California, one sister Stella Woral of Academy, and twelve step children. Burial was at Bendon Cemetery with Guthmiller Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were her grandsons, James, Chester, Francis Pazour, Warren, James Soulek and Robert Arnold. Lee Tony Moysis, 88, of Highmore, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the Highmore Health.

Funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Luze Funeral Home, Highmore with Roger Day officiating.  Burial with military honors followed at Z.C.B.J. Cemetery, Wagner, SD.  Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral service.

Lee Tony Moysis was born in Kimball, South Dakota to James and Emma (Pospichal) Moysis. At an early age, Lee’s family moved to the Sleepy Hollow Ranch, south of Dante, SD. He received his education at a rural school south of Dante. Lee was proud to be a Marine and loved to let everyone know. He served during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953.

Lee was united in marriage to Shirlie Aase in Lake Andes, South Dakota on June 14, 1959. They later divorced. To this union, three children were born.

Over the years, Lee worked for Clayton Jennings on his ranch, helped build the Big Bend Dam by Fort Thompson, worked in the Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, at Flannery’s Meat Packing Plant in Huron and was later self-employed as a tv/radio repairman but at heart his true joy was farming.

He was happiest sitting outside on a summer night with a beer in hand, planting his garden, camping in the Black Hills and spent many summer days fishing. He was known for his love of animals, always had time for his kids and was a great Dad.

Thankful for having shared his life are his children: Roxanne (Joel) Watson of Breckenridge, Colorado, Sheldon (Kathy) Moysis of Pewaukee, Wisconsin and Tim Moysis of Houston, Texas; grandchildren: Allison and Andrew of Pewaukee, WI and Lauren of Houston, Texas; and sisters: Eleanor Anderson of Wagner, SD and Martha Gengler of Rapid City, SD.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Charles, Ed, Robert, Alvin; and three sisters: Gen Conger, Olive Dunsmore and Marie Anderson.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Lee's arrangements.

Gladys C Konechne was born on March 15, 1904. She died on May 10, 2005 at 101 years of age.

GLADYS' OBITUARY

Gladys C. Konechne, age 101, of Mitchell, formerly of Mt. Vernon, died May 10, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a 7 PM prayer service. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Gladys was born on March 15, 1904 at Mitchell, SD to Frank and Sophia (Rubley) Sayles. She grew up in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School. She attended Dakota Wesleyan University and received her teaching certificate. She taught in country schools near Kimball, SD. Gladys married John D. Konechne on June 9, 1925 at Mitchell and the couple lived on a farm southwest of Kimball. In 1943, the family moved to a farm south of Mt. Vernon and in 1955, they moved into Mt. Vernon. In the fall of 1989, they moved to Mitchell and made their home at Meadowlawn Plaza. She is survived by her children: Elaine Dempsey and husband, Don, Boulder City, Nevada and E. Wayne (Carolyn) Konechne, Ames, Iowa; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren; a sister, Frances Holly, Pearce, Arizona and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Sayles of Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 8, 1990, a brother, Lloyd Sayles, an infant brother, Frank Jr, and her parents.

Passed away Oct. 3, 2016, at age 87, in Boulder City. She was born Sept. 4, 1929, to John D. and Gladys F. ( Sayles) Konechne in Mitchell, S.D. She spent her first 13 years in rural Kimball, S.D. Her family moved to Mount Vernon, S.D., and Elaine graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1946. She taught country school prior to her marriage to Donald Dempsey in June 1949. Through the years, she completed her bachelors in education and got a master's degree in library science. Elaine, Don and family lived in Mount Vernon and Howard, S.D. and Hawarden, Iowa. Elaine taught school in each town. In 1992, Elaine and Don retired and moved to Boulder City. Elaine is survived by her husband, Donald Dempsey; son, Steve (Claudia) Dempsey of Custer, S.D.; daughter, Holly (Eric) Gulsrud of Prescott, Ariz.; brother, Wayne (Carolyn) Konechne of Ames Iowa
